So I am back from Metro. Went early when the store was basically empty. I had lots of FPC ready in hand. Bev the friendly cashier helped me complete the order in record time. Here is the breakdown:

Today's shopping trip would have cost $206.16. I spent $53.83 for a savings of $152.33 and used $113.66 in FPC! For an overall percentage of 73.89%. I also got 109 Air Miles (worth over $10.00 on a future visit by redeeming points) and $7.50 worth of coupons from various products.

Now spending $100.00 on groceries is just something I don't do. I mean unless I am hosting a party or something, $100.00 is a lot of food for me. Coupons and Sales

I've said it before and I'll say it again, using coupons and sales together is the key to couponing in Canada. If you have watched the show on TLC called Extreme Couponer, then you know that those episodes show US citizens saving 100% almost every time. In Canada our couponing rules and regulations are different, but it is possible to save 50% to 80% off your weekly grocery bill. Waiting for sales to use your coupons doubles the bang for your buck. Collecting coupons and having them stocked so that when the sale is on you can take advantage of the best deals. Price matching is what I normally do. It saves me time and the gas money that it costs to drive all over town. But I wanted to show you that you can still save at least 50% if you are store loyal or uncomfortable price matching. That was my plan for today. I hit 2 stores that both have a rewards program that I belong to. I figured at least I could get a little more bang for my buck.

I headed out to Sobeys to take advantage of the 275 Sobeys points when you spend $25.00. I had a  BOGO (buy one get one free) to use and this is the perfect opportunity. You pay for the 1 item but you get awarded points for the 2 items you picked up. My shopping trip included these:

1 x Hamburger Helper ($3.00 coupon on the box for ground beef)= $1.99
2 x Stag Chili 2/$5.00 - $1.00 coupons = $4.00
2 x VH Steamers Reg. $4.27 on sale for $2.99 used a BOGO coupon so 2 for=$2.99

Today I went out to Zehrs. I usually do not shop there, as I find it to be expensive. But this week, they had some good deals on paper products and I just happened to have some great coupons to match with the sale. They had Bounty paper towels Reg. $8.99 on for $4.44, Charmin Toilet paper Reg. $10.99 on for $4.44 and Puffs Tissues Reg. $9.99 on for $4.44. These prices alone a good sales. I had a $6.00 off coupon when you bought all three. I actually had 2 of these coupons for $6.00 off. So for $59.94 regular price items I got them for $14.64! That is a savings of $45.30 or 75.58%!

New Coupon Binder

The time has come for me to retire my original coupon binder. It was a small coupon binder I bought at the dollar store. It lasted me only a few months but it did the job. Today I went out in search of a new coupon binder and found one at Walmart. It was on sale of course for $4.00. It is much larger in order to hold my ever growing coupon stash. I have divided it into 25 categories including cheese, breads, cereals and shampoo. I find the more categories you have the easier it is to find the coupons you need. Remember that your time is worth money too. So spending less time searching for the coupon you need, will save you more money. Here are my tips for creating the perfect coupon system:

• Purchase a large zipper binder. I say this because eventually you will need a larger one so save yourself a few bucks by buying it to start off.
• Go to the local dollar store to get your supplies. Places like Staples charge more for the things you need for your coupon organization system.
• Buy sport card protectors, page protectors, paper clips, dividers, small sticky notes, scissors and a small note pad. ($10.00 investment)
• Choose categories for your coupons that work for you but the more you have the easier it will be to locate the coupons faster.
• Label all your dividers with the coupon categories.
• Use sticky notes to tab pages that either have the coupons that are expiring soon, that you want to match-up with flyer sales or that you are really interested in using.

Make sure you go through your coupon binder at least once a week. This allows you to keep track of what coupons you have and to get rid of any expired coupons. Good luck!

Had to get a few things that I needed and of course I went to Walmart to price match and use coupons. Total retail price: $123.21 after price matching ($32.60) and coupons ($32.07) the total out of pocket was $58.54 a savings of $64.67 or 52.54%. What did you save?

Canadian Tire Scratch Card Update

Went to Canadian Tire to use my scratch card and pay my Canadian Tire bill. While I was at customer Service I asked if they had any more cards? The wonderful cashier gave me one. The cards are 1 per transaction so I did 2 transactions. Both my cards ended up being for $5.00 each so this is what I got for basically FREE:
